Engineer
Lech Milczarek (engineer) was born into this world on 7 March, 1953 in the dusty city of Łódź, where he still lives and creates. He started drawing, painting and sculpting in his very early years, but did not make it to the art. school, anyway. His preferred material is wood. At the beginning it was limewood, but for many years now he has been sculpting in hardwoods, e.g. ash, oak, and even hornbeam wood. The artist does not shun marble, bronze or steel, either. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the martial law imposition, he made a very unique, inimitable sculpture-composition from steel, white marble and bronze. The sculpture was displayed at the anniversary ceremonies and at the exhibition in Łowicz. Since 2002, the sculpture has been in deposit at the offices of the Łódź Region's "SOLIDARITY" Trade Union.
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Our Motherland regaining independence, he created the sculpture titled "Nasze gniazdo" ("Our Nest") for which he made 40 pieces of cold steel used during the various wars throughout our history, from the quest of the legendary Lech, Czech, Prus and Rus until the Independence Day of 11 November, 1918. This piece, along with more than a dozen other historical and patriotic works, formed his solo exhibition which opened on 4 November, 2008 at the European Institute in Lodz.
